Nathan is in the kitchen with mom today and we made Checkered Flag Cookies! This recipe is a modification of the recipe found in our Taste of Home Cooking For Kids/Kid's Party Foods book. The original recipe can also be found
here.
Here is what you would do in our kitchen - because we like homemade. :-)
- To the other half, add 1/2 cup melted chocolate chips and mix until blended. Wrap and chill.
- Chill both for at least one hour.
- Next, you roll the dough into 1/2" ropes and square it up a bit (flatten top and sides).
- Alternate and stack the dough ropes forming a log.
- It would be a good idea to refrigerate again right about now.
- Then carefully slice (use a sawing motion) the log to reveal a checkered cookie pattern.
- We placed wooden skewers under the cookie and pressed slightly to make the flag pole.
- Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
- Serve with your favorite race car meal or muffin tin like we did!
