Where do I find quality children's literature?
Book lists.
There are several lists out there that list quality children's books. The Read Aloud Handbook, by Jim Trelease is one that we own. I am particularly picky about what my children read, so we don't follow these lists whole-heartedly. But, they are a good source. I also look on curricular book lists ~ Sonlight for example. Of course, Five in a Row is a great place to look for timeless, quality children's literature. :-)

I am always looking for quality books. I was unaware of the booklist on Sonlight. Thank you for sharing the link =) It seems like the older they get, the harder it is to find them. Have you got a book list for older children? Or a sight you pull from? Thank you. Love you!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great list! Our local library has a WONDERFUL website full of booklists for many, many topics. It is one of my favorite online resources: ACPL Children's Booklists .
ReplyDeleteOh, we've read many of these. {We purchased the literature package from before Five in a Row}.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite from my childhood was Corduroy and Curious George books. I read Tikki Tikki Timbo as part of a story time at our library as a child...the repetition of it has stuck with me all these years!! Crazy how I can remember that catchy little book.
My littles are 2 and 4. We're going to be homeschooling and using Sonlight - I love their book selections!
You know I love the Read Aloud Handbook!! I see you are doing just fine coming up with these 10 topics. Way to go!

I too appreciate quality literature for myself and children. (1 and 3 yrs) I use the lists you mentioned and the book Honey For A Childs Heart. She has lists and lists of books for each different age/stage of children. She also has a book for teens and one for moms. (I own the moms one as well.) I also really like Lamplighter books! They are not cheap but always good, quality, classic stories!
ReplyDeleteLove this 10 day post series you ladies are doing! Thank you!
We have begun rowing too! So fun and I love the literature used. I am also using a early years booklist on Simply Charlotte Mason....... http://simplycharlottemason.com/planning/eyguide/eyreadalouds/

Thanks for sharing these great books. I have read a great many of them, but some I have not heard of. I have read The Read Aloud Handbook and really need to get it out of the library again. I have looked at Sonlight. I wasn't sure if you had to use their curriculum to have the book list.
ReplyDeleteI only just became aware of the 10 Days of Homeschooling today, can't wait to look at more of your posts. I noticed you have quite a few Montessori type activities. Was wondering if you would be interested in my giveaway ending this weekend. Karen Tyler over at World Wide Montessori Online has given me the opportunity to offer a giveaway for her next online course worth $240. If you are interested just stop on by to learn more about it.
