The Homeschool Mother's Journal {Week 32}

In my life this week…

{Week 32 of the year}

This was a hard week and I typically would not write a journal entry for a week like this, because it was just not that great and I don't have a lot of positive things to say {see, I have this condition and it is fatal - that I am human, a sinner and in desperate need of a Savior!}. Towards the end of the week it got better, but it started out hard and I threw in the towel on the rest of the week. But, I'll share, just so you know, I have hard weeks too. I hate to write about them, because I don't want to complain ~ my life is still blessed, even when it is hard!

In our homeschool this week…

we finished our first quarter with Core A.

One day, I did three math lessons in one sitting with Malachi at the table out of his Singapore Math 2A text (working on addition with renaming) and we did all of his problems on the vinyl table cover with a board marker. When we finished, he asked if "that" could be his math for the day! (Yes! It can, my love!) I love that he didn't realize that we were doing "math!" Today, I wrote some of the practice problems from the workbook- took the first problem from the five lessons that cover addition with renaming and he did those on the table, and then I marked another problem on each page, all of the story problems and we crossed off 5 lessons! (I usually have him do all of the problems, but math comes easy to him, so I am going to try not to give him busy work just to fulfill my OCD desire to have him complete the whole workbook or make everything come out even!).

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share…

how about a tip: if you use Sonlight (or any 3 ring binder system), keep a package of reinforcement labels handy. . . you never know when a page will rip out of the three ring binders and you will be so happy to have a pack handy!

AND All About Spelling Level 7 is now out! It is on my must have list!

I am inspired by…

those who can follow a timed schedule. I fly by the seat of my pants mostly, but I love having a schedule to follow to know what our expectations are for the day - like I have with Sonlight, and that is the closest I get.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

I took a short walk to the Farmer's Market and picked up some more knit washcloths, and I may have been seen at W@lm@rt, but I hardly got out of the house this week and I had a serious case of C.H.A.O.S (Can't Have Anyone Over Syndrome)! It was bad.  Last week would have been a more interesting week to blog about, ha! But, here I am and darn it, it is this week already.

My favorite thing this week was…

cold brew, organic, water processed decaf for iced coffee and just letting the kids play and not even worrying about combing their hair (I do that sometimes).

What’s working/not working for us…

clutter. stuff.

Questions/thoughts I have…

Trying not to think too much. I do that often enough.

Things I’m working on…

getting the house back into shape for school (and mercy me, for the blog hop next week! So thankful for that motivation!).

I’m reading…

Read-aloud for Core A: In Grandma's Attic ~ very sweet. Eliana and I bought matching aprons at the Farmer's Market for our "memory" for this book after reading chapter 4: "Ma's Busy Day."

I’m cooking…

Layered Salad with Turkey Bacon and Avocado
I struggled in the kitchen this week - just didn't feel like cooking much and there was lots of fend-for-yourselves this week and we even ordered pizza one night! Tonight we are having chicken gyros with tzatziki sauce (if we don't forget the chicken on the grill again!).

I’m grateful…

that His mercies are new every morning!

I’m praying for…

my sanity. for clarity and peace of mind. this has been one of those weeks that I wonder how I do anything at all. and am I really doing this. and what am I doing this for again? I need a fresh wave of inspiration and motivation that comes from above.♥

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

Delightful Learning is on Facebook! My goal this time: to share more realness behind our homeschool via my favorite method of sharing: photographs! Since I am organizing my home to get ready for school, I thought I'd focus on homeschool hot spots. Here is one that I shared:

Would love to have you join me!

P.S. I hope you enjoy this format of sharing. It helps me to have a spring board to share more of the heart behind my homeschool. ♥
