Our Year of Learning with Little House

It has been a very full and wonderful year learning with the Little House on the Prairie books!

Here are curriculum, and books and resources that we used.

Here are links to all the posts I have shared on my blog:

Little Town on the Prairie
These Happy Golden Years, The First Four Years, and Farmer Boy
Getting ready to "meet" Laura. She has grown so much since this photo!

It took us a full year to complete this study, and I'm ready to take the books down off the shelf. I'll give them to Eliana to keep for her own library. She has quite a collection already of her own personal books, and I love that.

Since this is a "looking back" post, I'll share that I'm so glad we saw this through to the end! It has been a wonderful experience, but if I could give one piece of advice to anyone considering this program, it would be to not try to do everything like we did. It's really too much. There really is so much to do. By the end, I was worn out, and we just read the last book and did the discussion questions.

We are ready to say farewell to The Prairie Primer, but Laura will always hold a special place in our hearts. ♥

  1. I started this last year with my 8yo and we only got through one book, ha! It is a lot and for whatever reason, I just couldn't get into it. I absolutely love LHOP books and wanted to make this work for us but I felt I cut out so much from the manual that we weren't really using it to the fullest. I will hold onto it a little longer in case we decide to pick it back up again. I have enjoyed following your posts though!

  2. It is a lot, I agree. Towards the end, we just used the reading schedule and discussion questions and did very few (if any) activities, and I'm fine with that. We got a lot out of it, but there is more than you need to do. At the very least, I encourage you to read the books and enjoy them. :)
