6. List the Ways You Can Love Others | 52 Lists

I'd like to use the words of St. Francis to list how I can express God's love to others:

Lord make me an instrument of your peace
Where there is hatred let me sow love
Where there is injury, pardon
Where there is doubt, faith
Where there is despair, hope
Where there is darkness, light
And where there is sadness, joy
O divine master grant that I may
not so much seek to be consoled as to console
to be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love
For it is in giving that we receive
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned
And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life.

The challenge is to try to act upon this list, and the best I can do is to try to imitate the love that God has shown me.

In all practicality, I can:

  • cook meals
  • beat my husband to the dishes
  • keep our house tidy
  • give of myself when I'd rather take
  • be uplifting and encouraging to others
  • offer a listening ear
  • say thank you
  • be a friend
  • pray for others
  • be patient and forgiving
  • be kind and thoughtful of others
  • write a letter to someone who is lonely
  • send a get well card
  • let people know I'm thinking of them
