When you click on a topic, the worksheets are categorized for easy selection. In addition, each worksheet can be previewed, opened as a PDF file, saved to your Teacher's File Box, are available in English and Spanish, and are common core aligned. It would be nice if the file opened in a new window (so you can come back and explore the other worksheets), but I just right clicked to open files in a new tab.
On the right hand side of the site are new and featured topics, top picks, and topics that may interest you.
How did we use Super Teacher Worksheets?
I just dove in and started printing worksheets that I thought my children would enjoy. I didn't have an agenda, and since we started this before school actually started, I wanted to keep it fun.
I started out by looking for some fall activities. I read a short story called "The Scariest Scarecrow" about a boy named Ben who visits his uncle's farm and helps him build the scariest scarecrow to scare the crows away. After the story was a set of comprehension questions that the kids answered, and then Eliana and Boaz made not-so-scary scarecrows (we thought they were kind of cute).
I printed out a coloring page/writing prompt that Eliana completed. She colored and started a story about two children playing in a big pile of leaves.
I printed a back to school "All About Me" page that Eliana and Malachi both completed.
I printed worksheets to practice counting with Bo - by 10s, 5s, and 2s.
At this point, I've had three broken links (not too significant considering I've clicked a lot of links), but the worksheets were all starting to look the same to me.
Then I discovered the "More Science Options" and I found lots of worksheets that appealed to me. (I was most interested in a membership for the Science worksheets.)
However, I'm only two weeks into the review, and my printer is out of ink. If you sign up for a membership, you will want to make sure you have a computer, internet, paper (regular and cardstock), a printer, and of course, plenty of ink!
While waiting for more ink to arrive, we did some of the Reading Comprehension worksheets - I read the stories online and had the kids answer the questions orally. This is not something I normally would have printed, but I needed to use the site to review it, so it worked out well.
I had about 15 pages pulled up to print, but I ended up clicking out of them while waiting for the ink. I later discovered that I could have saved them to my Teacher File Box!
What do I think?
They are quality worksheets and the site offers a large variety of them - over 10,000! I think "worksheets" are now known as "printables" in the homeschool world, as they are more than just workbook type activities. The site has fill in the blank, multiple choice, matching, short answer worksheets, but it also has printable stories, coloring, cut and paste, craft activities, and printable games, too.
I felt somewhat unfocused during this review because I had to use the site to review it. I think I would enjoy this site much more during a Five in a Row or unit study planning season, or as I need it over the course of the year. I would not use it on a daily or even weekly basis, but the worksheets would especially come in handy for a unit study.
In fact, I have 5 activities printed that I feel will be valuable to use with Malachi while studying colonial life with our row of The Hatmaker's Sign. The first one is a Population Growth Chart in Colonial America, where he will create a line graph to show the population growth in in the colonies from 1700 to 1770. Then he will use the data to answer questions about the population growth. Then he will do a worksheet on Colonial American Jobs where he will match each occupation with its description. Then, he will learn the location and name of all 13 colonies for map work. This extra work will come in handy and may even be a fun change of pace when we row our next book.
I found all the above when I went looking to see if there was a worksheet to help Malachi learn the location of the 13 colonies. This is how I think I will get the most benefit from Super Teacher Worksheets - on an as needed basis. He was working on an online activity to name the colonies and needed a little extra practice. Though, to be honest, he can redo the online activity as often as he needs so it wasn't really needed.
I still think it is a great site to have a membership to. In fact, as I started planning for our row of Blueberries for Sal, I found a worksheet on bears and hibernation and several worksheets to tie into nutrition. I think now that school is in full swing, it will be much easier to use the site and Super Teacher Worksheets will be my first stop when I need a "printable" activity.

As far as whether or not I would recommend it...
Do you like worksheets? I have a full curriculum that offers us plenty of work, so I'm not big into worksheets. That is... unless I need an activity for a unit study, and then I love them.
Do you use unit studies? I think a go-along printable is always welcome during a unit study.
Do you have a good printer with cheap ink? I had to buy a new printer recently and couldn't find cheap ink at first, and I panicked a little. I homeschool - I need cheap ink! I did finally find some, so I think cheap ink would be a must in my book.

I love Super Teacher Worksheets. For $20 a year, it is very nice to have so many awesome worksheets available. Like you, though, I use it sort of sporadically! I may print off a lot of worksheets one week, and not use it again for weeks.
