Love Letters from God Bible Stories for a Girl's Heart | Book Review

Love Letters from God: Bible Stories for a Girl’s Heart is a sweet collection of stories from the Bible for and about girls.

Love Letters from God - Bible Stories for a Girl's Heart

Written by Glenys Nellist and published by Zonderkidz, it is 32 pages in length and printed on glossy pages and in full color. It is a beautiful hard cover book with a matching dust jacket.

There are 14 stories in all. Each story is on a two page spread with appealing illustrations, a Bible verse, and a lift-the-flap "love letter from God."

Love Letters from God - Bible Stories for a Girl's Heart

I love that each story has a title that describes what each girl is known for:
  • Eve is "The First Girl"
  • Miriam is "The Trusting Girl"
  • Rahab is "The Brave Girl"
  • Deborah is "The Strong Girl"
  • Hannah is "The Hopeful Girl"
  • Nahum's Servant Girl is "The Servant Girl"
  • Ester is "The Prayerful Girl"
  • Mary, the Mother of Jesus is "The Young Girl"
  • The Samaritan Woman at the well is "The Thirsty Girl"
  • The Woman caught in sin is "The Forgiven Girl"
  • Martha is "The Busy Girl"
  • The Widow's Mite is "The Generous Girl"
  • Mary Anoints Jesus' Feet is "The Grateful Girl"
  • Mary Magdalene at the Resurrection is "The Happy Girl"

Designed to be read aloud to ages 4 - 8, the stories are paraphrased for little ears. The stories add dialogue that is not in the Bible, so it is like a fictional retelling of the story to make it interesting and appealing to children.

The lift-a-flap says "Your Love Letter from God" and inside is a space for your girl to write her name. The love letter relates to the story. For example, the story about Eve tells the story of how God created her and how she sins, but also how He covers her with new, warm clothes. In the love letter, God tells your girl that even if she makes some bad choices like Eve did, He will cover her with with love and forgiveness.

My 10 year old daughter loved the scrapbook feel of the book with the pictures in frames and embellishments.

I gave the book to her to read on her own and asked her a few questions.

What did you like about the book?

I liked reading stories about girls from the Bible, and that the book is just about girls. You hear more stories about boys from the Bible, like David and Goliath, and not as many about girls.

What is your favorite story from the book and why?

My favorite story is Ester because she is my favorite girl from the Bible. I like her story.

What do you think is the message of the book?

How much God loves us, and that girls are an important part of God's story.

What I love about the concept of this book is that God actually did write love letters to us, and they are all in the Bible. While the stories are paraphrased for young children, each story in the book tells you where to find it in the Bible. At the end of the book is lift-the-flap heart shaped blank letter for your daughter to write her own love letter to God.

Written for mainstream Christianity, the stories are short and sweet, but easy to read and full of reminders of how much God loves us. If you are looking for a sweet inspirational and encouraging book for your little girl, I recommend Love Letters from God: Bible Stories for a Girl’s Heart. While my daughter is older than the recommended age range, she's still a little girl at heart, and I wanted her to hear the message, read the letters, and know that God loves her too.

  2. It was my pleasure! Thank you for such a beautiful book and message. I didn't mention this in my review but several stories brought tears to my own eyes as the little girl in me felt God's love and forgiveness personally. I wish I had had this book as a little girl! I grew up hearing that I was not loved nor worthwhile.
, so I pray all little girls have a chance to hear about God's love for her. ❤️
