Harold and the Purple Crayon {FI♥AR}

-Bo is 5 years, 9 months-

Our row of Harold and the Purple Crayon was mostly memory making. See my row with Mali and Elli to see more learning and memory making with this book.

For Science, we studied the moon. We learned about the phases of the moon, how the moon circles the earth, and then, since our week began with the a Biblical Holiday, we made a moon cake for the Feast of Trumpets to tie into our study of the moon!

I so enjoyed watching Eliana help Bo make this cake. ♥

Our countdown to the Feast of Tabernacles - each balloon had 3 purple Kisses and they got to pop one balloon a day until we left for the Feast.

"Praise Him, sun and moon, praise Him all you shining stars." Psalm 148:3

Scripture verse (from Homeschool Creations) and our Land of Make Believe Map with Harold disc added to Dreamland.

Today, we read books about sleeping

Today, we read books about trouble sleeping and talked about our favorite ways to help us sleep. Along with reading books at bedtime, Bo loves Young Living Lavender and Orange. He doesn't like their Cedarwood as much because it makes him sleep "all long night," haha, but I do when he is bouncing on the bed! I actually didn't get this little monkey to sleep through the night until he was almost 4 years old - and I did it by diffusing Lavender and Orange, so I'm really thankful for these oils.

Taken at our place in Montana, we thought this was a perfect "Harold" moon and noted where the moon was outside our front window.

As you can see, Day 5 was all about making pie - Bo's favorite kinds of pie. We made this a math lesson by doing Pie Fractions, and we had 9 pies to practice on.

We did some Harold Inspired Yarn Art

We dipped the yarn in glue and then made designs on wax paper. After they dried, we glued purple crayons onto our creations.

Harold and the Purple Crayon is a Five in a Row selection from Volume 2.

Reading

Bo is plugging along nicely in All About Reading Level 1 and is on lesson 21. For our read aloud, we read The Adventures of Jimmy Skunk from the Old Mother West Wind collection by Thornton Burgess.

Math

Bo is using Math U See Beta this year. I was trying to slow down and was stalling on introducing addition with regrouping in Lesson 7 because he is so young, but he worked ahead on his own. We had not even watched the video yet, but he did the activity sheet for Lesson 7 and got them all right. So we moved on. :) He did the Unit 1-7 review and is now on Lesson 8.

Until next time...

  3. What beautiful photos! I love the pictures of them making the cake. I see some of our early books in these pictures. Silas used to love The Napping House. So precious. All of this :)

  4. Thank you! With Bo being so smart, I don't want to forget that he is still only a kindergartener, hence why mostly memory making and together time. ♥

  5. This is beautiful! Love those mini pies. We did the same thing when we rowed How to Make an Apple Pie this year. I am going to need to steal a few of your ideas for our next Harold row.
