Homeschool Journal | July 2017

In my life this month…

Somehow June turned into July and here we are now 3 weeks later. I shared what's been going on in my June edition of Currently, and my July edition is right around the corner, but I will share that our life seems up in the air. We may be moving soon, so instead of deep cleaning to get ready for a new school year, I might be packing it all up.

I'm meal planning to make life easier - something I'm not very good at but am enjoying. So far, I have Mama Mia Mondays and Taco Tuesdays lined out for the next four weeks, and my husband is bringing home boxes to start packing up things we don't use daily.

My school room is ready to go, so I may share how I organized it... but we won't be using it long so my focus will be on how to make school mobile. I already have tote bags ready to go for morning time, writing time, and one for one week of school at a time - the rest will have to go in a tub.

So, life is up in the air, but this move would be a blessing for our family.

In our homeschool this month…

We are taking a summer break, but we are still doing Crew school. Currently on deck is In the Reign of Terror from Heirloom Audio, No-Nonsense Algebra, and Hey, Andrew! Teach Me Some Greek! - Level 2. Everyday Cooking is on it's way along with Marine Biology.

We are also listening to The Green Ember on Audible. You can get all three books in the series right now for $3.95. That's three books for the price of one. We are enjoying it, but I think Bo may be a little young for it because he thinks it's a little scary.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

I paid a visit to the ER very early in the morning on the 1st of this month for kidney stones. We don't have insurance, so by the time I agreed to go, I was in excruciating pain. They gave me a bag of fluids, an nsaid for the pain (Toradol) which took the pain away in about 15 minutes, and a drug called flo-max to help the stone pass. I am making it a point to stay hydrated.

We made a Costco trip, a trip to the property, and helped Nathan move into his new apartment.

I had a tension headahce on the 4th, so I layed low. I got out a big plastic sheet and duct tape for the kids to make a water blob (redneck waterbed), and I even let them use my water birthing pool for a swimming pool because it was so hot. We lit some sparklers, and then Luke took the kids to watch the fireworks, while I stayed home with the blinds drawn and slept it off.

we spent several hours at the pool with friends and spent the day visiting with a new friend while the kids played games.

we spent the day at the river with friends. It was nice to sit, talk, and knit in the shade.

my husband's aunt and uncle were in town for two weeks, so my husband spent his time off from work helping them on their house. I went out this week and learned how to texture. Together, we textured the master bedroom and landing, and we'll paint tomorrow.

My favorite thing this month…

Hope. I never want to give up hope. We need to sell our house in Montana to be able to buy a house here, and I'm full of hope that it will sell.

What’s working for us…

Enjoying summer while it's here.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I'm ready to graduate my 17 year old from my homeschool. He's pursuing a self-directed education at this point, has tested into college level English and math, and wants to pursue a career in the music industry. He wants to study to retake the ACT, write lyrics, compose beats, and record, so we might as well be done. I was thinking about having him take the GED for an early graduation requirement, but there's a stigma associated with getting a GED. It's not that I can't give him a homeschool diploma on top of a GED for meeting my requirements, right?

A photo to share…

Just some pool photos to document that summer is happening here instead of school. This beautiful pool is in Buffalo, WY, and it's free. The water comes from the river, so it is cold, but it's nice and big and a lot of fun for all ages.

On my blog in case, you missed it…

You haven't missed much. :) I've been sharing Issac Watts' hymns with sunset photos from my photo album. These bring me a feeling of peace and have been easy posts to get me through this month. I will be back to sharing regular content next month.
