The Pumpkin Cake That Never Was

It looked so good going in the pan, but looks can be deceiving. I licked the bowl after he poured it in and it tasted like baking soda with a hint of pumpkin. I told Dylan what I thought and he said it must have been because I licked the bottom of the pan. I spied the flour bag on the counter seeing that there was no less flour than when I had just used it and asked if he was sure he put flour in. Oh, yah.

I put the cake in the oven and he ran off to play. And I watched it bubble and grow. I was getting nervous so I stuck a cookie sheet underneath it. It reached the top of the pan and I thought for sure it would overflow. Then as sure as it grew, the bubbles started popping and the cake sank to almost nothing.

Strange, I thought and sent Nathan to ask Dylan if he is sure that he put flour in, lol. Nathan came back with a full report that Dylan is sure that he put flour in ~ the stuff in the orange bag. The cake is no more because the "stuff" in the orange bag is baking soda!

I don't think he will make that mistake again, but I am keeping my eye on him!

  2. That is too funny! No wonder it tasted strange when you licked the batter. That will be a fun memory to share when they are older. :-)
