Day in the Life: Monday

First, thank you so much for your help!! I got a lot of great questions and ideas for sharing a "day in our life!" I think I have answered all of your questions in the comments section HERE... or in my upcoming posts!

Please go read the comments on this post to see some of my answers!

A few notes:

A couple weeks ago, I asked my husband, Luke, to help me with My Father's World (MFW) with my middle school boys, Nathan and Dylan. So, Luke does MFW History and Bible and the read-aloud. He also helps me by checking their daily independent work. (He is such a routine guy, so he is good for them!).

Each day this week, I try to share various aspects of our lives, but not all in one day! On Wednesday, when your ideas started pouring in, I started adding much more detail! Be prepared for lots of pics! (Please let me know if you prefer large or x-large pics - I like seeing the detail, so I use x-large in my rows! But, I used large instead in my posts this week. I usually use large in my reviews, too. Btw, they are the same size (400px), so they should load the same).

Please note that documenting our week and taking photos presented a challenge in itself. . . I could NOT do this every week! This is also why I quit doing Homeschool Highlights posts for my older boys  ~ it's just too hard to keep up!  It will, however, be neat to look back on our week, so I am GLAD I did it!

Also, I try to share what I normally do NOT share regularly, but do include sneak peaks of Five in a Row stuff. I'll share our row at the end of the week, as well as a planning post.

Monday

8:00-8:30 Luke is doing MFW with Nathan and Dylan (Bible and History).

8:30-9:00 All About Reading with Eliana (lowercase letter a and 1st sound of a), LL; Malachi play;  older boys do their own school.

Finding lowercase a's.

Gluing a's that we cut out of a magazine.

The teacher's manual is scripted ~ LOVE this!

Getting loves from Ziggy. =)

Life of Fred - Butterflies - Math

10:30-10:45 Math with Eliana; Malachi play.

"a, a, apple" math from 1+1+1=1's RRSK

10:45-11:15 FIAR~ read Storm in the Night to Mali and Elli and do the Social Studies lesson from the Five in a Row manual (relationships and fears).

11:15-11:30 Luke pops in to see if I need anything from the store (yes!) and checks on the boys' school work.

11:30- 12:00 Lunch, Bo up from his nap, nursed.

12:00-1:30 Tidy up (clean up clutter, put books and supplies away, vacuum living room and office, clean kitchen (dishes and counters, quick sweep) and dining room, then free time

1:30-2:30 FIAR tie-in ~ read Thundercake to Mali and Elli, talk about fears and relationships (Grandmother and the little girl); do literacy activities with Malachi on fear.

2:30-2:45 Make a Thundercake!

2:45-3:00 "Tasty Alphabet Time" ~ "animal crackers and cocoa to drink" and animal cracker merry-go-round; Nathan taking care of Bo.

Animal Cracker Merry-Go-Round
(Saw this in our Big Back Yard magazine this morning while looking for a's!)

We read the poem "animal crackers and cocoa to drink - that is the finest of suppers I think"  in LL this morning!

3:00-3:15 clean up snack mess, dear husband pops his head in and checks school work, take cake out of oven.

3:15-3:30 Work on this post, feed Bo, think about what we are having for dinner. . . chocolate cake? :D Nurse Bo, read email; boys - chores, activities. . .

The older boys take turns helping with Bo during the day - Dylan is willing, but not allowed to until his school is done. Jordan finishes school first and then goes to work out or work at the Y. Nathan finishes school second, helps me with Bo until "after school hours" then he heads to the Y to work out or play soccer. Dylan stays until he finishes his school.  I'd rather the kids be outside playing. . . but SOMETIMES, it is nice to have them around to help with Boaz, and this means letting them watch a TV show.

3:30-4:00 Make myself a salad; kids are playing in the living room; upload photos to computer; edit photos and upload to my Picasa album (I probably won't post this until next week! but it helps me to blog as I go and this is the part that I enjoy the most). If I am not blogging, I can use this time to plan - for our next day or our next row. (Timer is set!)

4:00 - 4:45 Make popcorn and watch Dennis the Menace with the little kids on Netflix (Eliana's request); older boys are at an end of the season soccer event; play with Bo on the floor during the show (change  and nurse Bo).

4:45-5:00 Add photos to my post and read email.

5:00-5:30 Make frosting, frost the cake, clean up mess (clear and wipe counter, dishes in the sink)

5:30-6:00 Nurse Bo and lay him down (5:45) for a nap; went to reboot the laundry and realized I forgot to put the lid down on the washer, so gathered up any other dirty laundry I could find to add to the load.

6:00-6:30 Unload and load dishwasher (Jordan did the silverware) - Nathan usually does this, but he was at a ref meeting; talk to JJ (Jordan). Luke is working late tonight (running the ref meeting Nathan is at), so we will have a late dinner;  Bo is sleeping, kids are watching a TV show and tidying up the living room while they watch (that is a rule - they have to clean up while they watch if the living room is a mess).

6:30-7:00 Dear husband is home early, water is on the stove for spaghetti, doing a last bit of school with Malachi (about 10 minutes of Geography and Science - I normally would just do this the next day, but this is a short week); Bo is up from his nap (45 min nap).

7:00-7:45 Dinner, dessert (Thundercake!), dinner clean up, chores.

7:45-8:45 Luke reads to the boys (Mark of the Lion); I read to Mali & Elli - Young Discoverers: Weather and Climate (an introduction to weather for our weather unit to go along with our row of Storm in the Night). I also realized that I forgot to do our weather and temperature chart for today, so we made note of the temp and weather today and will update the chart tomorrow.

8:45 Bedtime for the kids.

9:00-11:00 clean off my desk, put books away; Luke helps tidy up; check my lesson planner to see what I accomplished today and what is planned for tomorrow, time with husband (talk, dream, catch up on our day), time online. . .

Screen shot of my online history.

Online: scrolled through my reader, looked for a printable for letter b, watched a movie trailer that came through my email, pulled up our co-op homepage so I wouldn't forget to put in our order due this week, searched the FIAR forum to see if I could find where Storm in the Night takes place (no idea where to put the story disk - didn't find the answer and didn't want to spend too much time looking), then updated this post with pics and notes!

11:17pm Off to bed - way past my bedtime!
