I have been reading a little of this every night. I keep it by my bedside and try to go to bed a little early so I can read a little more. And I need to stop this altogether! This book is keeping me up - not because I am reading, but because it gives me something else to ponder before I fall asleep. I have enough of that, thank you. Seriously, though, it is a good thing I am thinking. I have lots to consider with regards to home schooling and this is giving me the motivation to put those thoughts into action.
For example, I read the section on burnout busters and read in Burnout Buster #1 that creating independent learners is one way to prevent burnout. So, I was up thinking about how I could do that. I woke up with a great plan to do an experiment for a whole week. I gave each boy their assignments for the week and let them plan and schedule their week. For one boy this worked, but it did NOT work for the others. I then had to sit down and revaluate what we could do to help them be more independent learners. We agreed to daily goals and I would monitor their progress weekly, rather than daily. We will see how this goes. . . but I think we need more practice. In theory, this is a good idea. . . and I guess that is what this book is about ~ finding out what works for you.
From "why homeschool" to what to teach and how to organize your day ~ this is a resource that is jam packed with some great information and I recommend this for anyone who is homeschooling, especially if you are just thinking about homeschooling, have questions, need information, or just need a little encouragement.
