Daybook July 2, 2014

FOR TODAY - July 2, 2014

Outside my window...

I see the wind blowing the leaves in the lilac bushes and the sun shining ~ a welcome break from the rain.

I am thinking...

that I'm enjoying the lazy days of summer too much.

I am thankful...

for so much.

In the kitchen...

The fridge is looking bare again. . . time for another Costco run so soon?

I am cooking Alaskan salmon burgers with lemon butter and asparagus with butter and garlic for dinner tonight (a THM "S" for "Satisfying" meal!).

I am wondering...

if my raspberry bush will ever produce raspberries (or if the birds are beating us to them)?

I am wearing...

capris (that I never thought I would wear again!) and a light green shirt

I am creating...

lesson plans for Five in a Row.

I am going...

to enjoy a few days of r & r.

I am reading...

Flourish, Balance for Homeschool Moms (a review for the Crew). This week, I am doing a time log of my day. I am seeing little things that will help me improve how I use my time (like being more organized so I don't waste time looking for things).

and Proverbs 31 along with Doorpost's Busy Mama Bible Study that started yesterday. The introductory post had me intrigued. Who was that woman really?

I am hoping...

to lose 10-20 more pounds. I would be happy with just 10, because I never imagined I would even be where I am now, but Trim Healthy Mama is working and I'm aiming for the stars!

I am looking forward to...

a trip to Montana.

I am learning...

to step out of my comfort zone.

Around the house...

some tender loving care is needed, but I'm lacking energy and motivation.

I am pondering...

how to simplify our homeschool this coming year.

A favorite quote for today...

"...brevity is the soul of wit," Shakespeare ~ Hamlet Act 2, Scene 2

I used this quote in a homeschool panel I participated in for our homeschool group last night. Knowing we would be short on time, I gave careful thought to my answers and intended to keep them brief, though not quite laconic (a fun word we learned whilst studying Ancient Rome). The second time I used the word laconic (because I did have a laconic answer), a homeschool graduate sitting next to me had to know what laconic meant, and instead of giving a laconic answer as I should have, I did not.

I should have simply said, "short."

I'm not very witty, am I. :)

It was a lot of fun, though! We had a wonderful turn out for the panel discussion and BBQ. Some exciting things are in the works for building community and support.

One of my favorite things...

sunshine!

I am encouraged by...

an email I received today:

I just wanted to drop a note to tell you thank you so much for blogging about your homeschool days and adventures. We rowed Vol 1 of FIAR last year (and will continue on with Vol 2 this year), and stumbling upon your blog was a true gift. I've adapted several ideas and tips along the way that has made a real difference in my homeschool.  So, thank you!

Notes like this really make my day. :)

A few plans for the rest of the week:

We currently have several activities going on for the 3 youngest:

  • Swimming lessons ~ Mali, Elli, and Bo

  • Y Track & Field ~ Mali and Elli

  • Itty Bitty Soccer ~ Bo

  • Speech Therapy ~ Bo

One way to simplify is being home more days than we go out, so all of these activities are on T/Th.

Luke and I also have a wedding anniversary tomorrow. We will probably go to dinner and spend some time at our place in Montana with the three youngest.

Oh, and Dilly's dipping Dilly Bars at Dairy Queen. :D  Dylan turned 14 on Saturday and started his first real job on Monday. He's so cute and totally over qualified with his awesome people skills, but he's totally happy dipping Dilly Bars for a summer job. Nathan is working for Luke at the Y and Jordan is at Camp Hye Sierra in California this week. [happy sigh]  My boys are growing up so fast.

From the learning rooms...

Nathan is doing Lightening Lit. He read the intro to Lesson 1, and read 10 chapters of Uncle Tom's Cabin and answered comprehension questions this week.

Nathan and Dylan are both doing Grammar of Poetry. We are on lesson 2.

Dylan, Mali, Elli, and Bo are doing Mathletics. (I bought two subscriptions for Mali and Elli for fun summer math and then it came up for review so I received two to review).
