Reflecting on 2011

What was the single best thing that happened this past year?

Boaz

and

Discovering Project Life.

What was the single most challenging thing that happened?

I can't mention the single most challenging thing online for privacy reasons, but here are the runners up:

  • Establishing a new normal.

  • Trying to get Bo to sleep at night.

  • Jordan's stress fracture.

What was an unexpected joy this past year?

Water flowing on our property in Montana. The land has been in a drought for almost 20 years. When we bought the property, the water flowed for the first time in 19 years. This past year, it flowed in all of the dry creeks on our property and even washed out our driveway! It was a green spring and summer until the water dried up mid summer, but it gave me HOPE.

And falling in love with my husband again. ♥

What was an unexpected obstacle this past year?

That we couldn't afford a well. We would have to dig 400 feet to hit water (1-3 gallons per minute at that depth), and install 2 cisterns (one for water collection and the other for storage) plus a solar pump for an estimated total of $45,000 - MUCH more than we could afford and still live debt free.

Pick three four words to describe 2011.

Emotional. Sleepless. Joyful. Hopeful.

What were the best books you read this year?

The Scriptures. But not enough of them.

With whom were your most valuable relationships?

Each other.

What was your biggest personal change from January to December this past year?

Becoming a mama of 6 children.

In what way(s) did you grow emotionally?

Self control.

In what way(s) did you grow spiritually?

Growing stronger in my faith.

In what way(s) did you grow physically?

I've lost most of my baby weight (about 4 pounds to go).

In what way(s) did you grow in your relationship with others?

Learning to keep my peace (keep quiet).

What was the most enjoyable part of your work (at home)?

Homeschool, photographing life and documenting it. It helps me to revel in the moments.

What was the most challenging part of your work (at home)?

Keeping up with housework and feeding my family HEALTHY food.

What was your single biggest time waster in your life this past year?

Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader (still debating the last one, but I have way too many blogs in my reader). I deleted my FB and Twitter months ago and I still don't regret it.

Luke says TV. In the first seven years of our marriage I didn't watch TV much, but this past year we have watched 2 series on Netflix that I enjoyed - Monk and Jericho. That is a LOT of TV for me! I wanted to watch White Collar with Jordan, but I canceled our Netflix this week.

What was the best way you used your time this past year?

Cultivating a good life and documenting it.

Seeing the good in life amidst the trials.

What was the biggest thing you learned this past year?

That Father never gives me more than I can handle and what He gives me is to grow me.

And that I can't do it alone or with my own strength. I need help.

Create a phrase or statement that describes 2011 for you.

When I think of this year, I think of the movie Meet the Robinson's and the following quote and song from the movie.

"Keep moving forward." ~ Walt Disney

"Let it go, let it roll right off your shoulders,

Don't you know, the hardest part is over?

. . . Our lives are made in these small hours,

These little wonders. These twists and turns of fate.

Time falls away, but these small hours

These small hours still remain. . ."~ from the song "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas.

Another song I think of is When I'm Gone by Randy Newman ~ the theme song from the Monk finale.

"The time for us to say goodbye is near

The day I hoped would never come is here

Though many hearts are broken we must some how carry on

Cause I think your going to miss me when I'm gone. . .

And I sure am going to miss you when I'm gone. "

It was a GOOD year. I am thankful for every single What I Love About You post that I wrote for Bo (for me) because while it was a good year, it was hard and I am sure that I would have forgotten all those things. Life is so incredible full and BLESSED!
