All About Learning Press has been such a blessing to our homeschool. I get a lot of questions asking why I am using All About Reading and All About Spelling in lieu of the Language Arts that comes with our main curriculum and the answer is simple: It's a better program!
I've written about why I think it is a better program:
The program is clear. The lessons are scripted and you know exactly what to do every step of the way. It is easy to teach and easy to learn.
All About Reading is logical. Reading concepts are taught in a logical, understandable order and there are no gaps. And the program includes all the necessary elements to teach and learn reading.
All About Reading is multisensory. The lessons appeal to all learning styles and engage the child using sight, sound and touch.
All About Reading has continual review. While the child learns new material, there is still continual review of previously-taught concepts.
For my review of All About Reading Level 3, I'd like to share a little about the program, how we are using it, my "set-up," and how the program, overall, has made a difference in our homeschool.

To teach Level 3, I need:
- Reading Interactive Kit $28.95
- Level 3 Materials $119.95
- Additional Student Packet (if teaching more than one student)
Because, this is truly an open and go program, I'll jump right in to both what I think of level 3 and how we are using it.
The charm and friendliness of All About Reading Level 3 continues to be what I have come to love and expect from All About Reading. It follows in the same pattern as level 2, with a practice sheet for each story, pre-reading discussions and activities, comprehension questions that help my child make predictions about what will happen next, post-reading discussions and activities that include discussing the main character or conflict, story sequencing, how the story relates to my child's life and more. It continues to take reading beyond the process of decoding and involves my child on a deeper level.
We do our lessons at a desk in the dining room. I have our white board with letter tiles in front of the desk and a pocket chart on the side to hold phonogram cards. I love this set up for ease of use, but the cards can be filed in a index card box and pulled out, just as easily.
The hands-on component to the program is outstanding and makes this program a lot of fun - to teach and to learn.
Reading the Warm-up Sheet for "Train Cat"
The Warm-Up sheets help prepare the child for the actual reading of a story. This was a brilliant addition to Level 2, and I often wish that they were available in Level 1, which I am using with Eliana, my 1st grader. I could skip these with Malachi because he can read them without hesitation, but I think it gives him a confidence boost and they have helped to increase his fluency.
Reading "Train Cat," a story set in the 1800s.
The stories are interesting and my child can relate to them.
I love these photos of Malachi reading because he looks so peaceful (and so grown up!) while he reads. He seems to really enjoy the stories.
Reading the readers aloud has been very beneficial to him. I've noticed the more he reads aloud, the less he stutters. In fact, I haven't heard him stutter in awhile. His confidence is soaring!
After he finishes the story, I am prompted to give him encouraging feedback. I naturally do this, but it is good to see the reminder. Then, I am prompted to read aloud to my student for twenty minutes. I love this, too, as well as the read-aloud tips. This day, I am reminded of how "reading is like a conversation between the author and the reader." I teach Malachi to think about what he is reading and make sense of the information.
The lessons really engage my child. Here he is creating a floor plan for Lesson 5. He spent a lot of time thinking about his floor plan and rearranging the "furniture" to make his room cozy and functional. This activity sets the stage for the story "Houseboat Summer."
Malachi's Floor Plan
I tuck the pieces into an envelope for safe keeping and slide the activity into a plastic page protector to store in his binder.
As he reads "Houseboat Summer," his floor plan activity makes sense, and the story comes alive! He understands the need for a practical floor plan for such a small place as a houseboat.
I place removable transparent dot stickers on the corners of select pages that have discussion prompts in the teacher manual. When he sees the red dot, he knows to pause so I can ask him comprehension questions. I am not only prompted to model these comprehension strategies, but I also got the awesome tip to mark the pages from the manual, so I remember to pause after these pages are read.
My Set-Up:
I put Malachi's completed activity pages, charts, read aloud record, and word cards into a binder. If he needs to review a concept I can easily pull the lesson's activities out and use them again if needed! I'm really bad about losing game pieces and activity sheets, so this keeps them organized and handy.
I'm using removable green transparent stickers to mark words Malachi misses.
Here he missed one word: mow. He rhymed it with cow. So, at the end of our lesson, I know to review the word.
I have accidentally dumped the whole set of Word Cards out and painstakingly put them back in order more than once, so I decided to not separate the Word Cards this time. Instead, I slipped them into a plastic page protector!
I use a green transparent dot sticker to mark where we leave off at the end of a lesson and this has become such an easy method to use.
I love this program!
With All About Reading my child is not only learning the process of decoding, he is learning to understand the world around him.
And we are both enjoying the process!
Malachi has literally taken off in his reading since beginning All About Reading. Each level has increased his confidence so much that Malachi read a school years worth of reading (3rd grade readers) over the summer before 3rd grade and by the time Level 3 came out, I thought that it might be too easy for him.
And so far it is. Which, to me, means that All About Reading has done a good job of teaching him to read!
I've said before that All About Learning Press programs make me feel most like a real teacher and that is because of all of the above.
I feel smart because it is a smart program! And my child feels smart, because with this program, he is!

All About Spelling:
We are still using All About Spelling, however, I am not correlating it for Level 3. Level 3 does not correlate as well as Levels 1 and 2. So we are just plugging along in both. Please note: I teach the same level in reading as I do in spelling and it makes sense to me to do so. But, I have always shared that Marie doesn’t recommend this. The article doesn’t change my mind ~ I don’t believe that one or the other have been sacrificed at all. My children will write whether they know how to spell or not, so I feel right in giving them the tools they need to be good spellers and writers. I’m on my 3rd level of teaching AAR/AAS levels together and I am happy with the results! My 3rd grader’s reading level has advanced way beyond level 3 and his spelling is on target with level 3.
While my child is ready to work in the same spelling level that he is reading at, not all children are, so please take that into consideration when choosing for your child.

Oh, how I would just be OVER THE MOON to win this give away! We are almost finished with Level 1, and it would be an answer to our financial prayers to win Level 2!
ReplyDeleteThis looks like it would be a good program for my son, Jack.
ReplyDeleteI am using AAR 1 and 2 and love the program too! would love to try level three next year :)
ReplyDeleteI'd like to use AAR and AAS for my two kiddos. W would start at level 1. Your review has shown me a lot more is exactly what comes with the program and the type of activities involved. I think my kids would get a lot out of it.
ReplyDeleteI would probably need pre-reading or level 1 for my girls.
ReplyDeleteI just ordered level one. I have a struggling reader i really think this will be a huge help to him!!
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! We are currently looking into the future for homeschooling with our preschooler and I have seen this program in action with several of my friends who homeschool their families. We would love the pre-reading level if it were available for the giveaway. Thanks for the review and the inside look at how the program works and the components included, it really helps when you are looking at all of the options out there!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the monkey, Lance would love the monkey!!!
ReplyDeleteLance completed the first two levels so we'd most likely go with the 3rd (monkey love )
ReplyDeleteThis has always been on my wish list but it was the cost that was putting me off...
ReplyDeleteAs new homeschooling mom, I would love to win this!
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to try this program! Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't used it but I'd probably go with level 2 or 3
ReplyDeleteWe are loving All About Reading this year! I have my little K'er doing Level 1 and my 2nd grader is working her way pretty quickly through level 2. I need to purchase level 3 soon, so I'd love to win it here! Level 3 is my choice!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michelle, for these posts as they are the reason I ended up trying it out in the first place! THANK YOU!!
I am STILL looking for a good reading program. My son, who is 6, has tried several but we are still trying to find one that fits us. I have been wanting to try this program but haven't had the funds.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently in AAR 2 and AAS 1 and I agree with everything you stated. I love this program.
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to start level 1 with my daughter very soon, so it would be awesome to win it! After A LOT of research, All About Reading seems like the perfect fit for us and I'm really excited to start!
ReplyDeleteWe started All About Reading last year and we LOVE it. We have levels 1-3 and it has been fabulous. I really like your idea of using the transparent stickers on the practice sheets, I'm going to start doing that! I'd love to win the pre-reading level to use with my youngest child.
ReplyDeleteThis has been a wonderful program!! My 4-year old just finished level 1 and my 6 year old is just finishing up level 2. Would love to win level 3. :)
ReplyDeleteWe would love to win AAR 3. The progress we have seen with this program has been amazing!
ReplyDeleteI am currently using AAR level 2 with my 1st grader and looking forward to level 3! I couldn't agree with you more. This program makes ME feel successful!
ReplyDeleteI really want to use this program. We are using The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading. It works but my daughter finds it boring. I just don't have the $$ to purchase All About Reading right now or I would have already made the switch. A friend of mine uses this program and swears by it. It is the only thing that has worked for her struggling reader. Since my daughter is in kindergarten, I would get level 1.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently using AAR and AAS products. They are a wonderful fit for my children. Would love to win!
ReplyDeleteWe used level 1 AAR last year and have continued with level 2 this year. It's an amazing program and we've seen amazing results. We'll absolutely continue on to level 3!
ReplyDeleteWe are currently using AAR2 and AAS1. We started with the Pre Level 1 a little over a year ago and I have been astounded with my nearly 6 year old son's progress. I could not be happier with this program! And as someone else has stated, Delightful Learning is the first place I learned about All About Learning Press.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently using AAR with our second grader and love it. We feel it is the best program that we have found for the same reason as you. My husband and I switch days of teaching, and it is so easy for one of us to pick up where the other left off and teach.
ReplyDeleteWould be thrilled to win Level 3! Love this program!
ReplyDeleteWe love AAR!!! It would be such a blessing to win the next level (2).
ReplyDeleteWe are using AAR2 and I love it! I've heard good things about pre reading too and I'm considering getting it for my 3 year old. I look forward to reading your review!
ReplyDeleteWe are loving this program. It has really helped teach reading to our children. We are finished with level 1 and it would be a blessing to receive level 2. Soon we will also be getting the all about spelling program as well!
ReplyDeleteI am really looking into this program for my kindergarten age daughter next year. It really looks like fabulous reading program:)
ReplyDeleteI am using All About Reading level 1 with 2 of my kiddos (8.5 and 5.5) right now, they are each going at their own pace. I LOVE this program and will be needing level 2 very soon, funds permitting. Winning would be stellar!!!!! We also love All About Spelling level 1.
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love this program!! I use the spelling as well and have seen so much improvement on my sons spelling and reading. It would be great to win a level!!
ReplyDeleteWe would love All about reading level 3! We did level one and are working on level two now. We love it!
ReplyDeleteThank you for this giveaway. I've always wanted to try out All about reading as we love AAS at our house.
ReplyDeleteWhat a comprehensive review! I agree with so much you mentioned! Thanks for offering a giveaway. I can't wait to add level 3 to my curriculum.
ReplyDeleteMy 3rd grade daughter uses AAS and I want to try AAR Level 1 from my 5 year old. We need a better fit for a hands on boy.
ReplyDeleteI would start with level 2. I have one student who is a struggling reader.
ReplyDeleteWe have been using AAR for our younger 2 girls ( 4 and 7) They are finishing up Pre Level and Level 1. I have bought Level 2 so we are ready as soon as Level 1 is done. If I won, we would LOVE level 3. This program has made a world of difference for our family!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try the Reading and Spelling! This is our first year homeschooling, but the program looks even more thorough than those used in districts I previously taught in.
ReplyDeletejust this week I ordered AAS 1, looking forward to it arriving, I would love AAReading 1 to go with it.
ReplyDeleteWe have used AAR Pre-1 and Level 1 but have not been able to purchase Level 2 yet so I would pick that one I think. She may be ready for level 3 by now, I would consult with Marie to find out. I LOVE the way you have organized your materials, makes me want to go re-do all of my own AAR items right now. I MUST get one of those wall charts! This post has been so helpful, thanks for sharing so much detail :)
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is using level 2 right now and is LOVING it! We want to use level 3 next year with her, so that would be my choice.
ReplyDeleteWe love AAR as well. We are also on level 3.
ReplyDeleteI have used all about spelling, but not the reading program yet. Thanks for your review! It definitely sounds like something I want to use with my boys!
ReplyDeleteI just got all about spelling and I LOVE it. I wish I had purchased it before now. I would love to get All about Reading level 3 too.
ReplyDeleteIt looks really fun. I love trying new things, but, with six children, we use whatever we have first. However, winning it would be awesome.
ReplyDeleteJust started level 1. Totally loving it!!!
ReplyDeleteWe use levels pre reading, 1 and 2, and in a couple weeks we will need level 3. I would be thrilled to win!!!
ReplyDeletewe have tried AAS 1 and will be coming back to it for the next school year. Have not tried AAR but it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI am soooo tempted by AAR. Every review makes me that much closer to making the jump. The only thing that is holding me back is we are part of a virtual learning school and that requires us to use their curriculum - including regular testing. I think next year we are going to go independent so AAR will be a definite at that point, but I am considering starting with Level 1 right now to supplement our current curriculum because it does seem far superior.
ReplyDeleteI am going to be using all about reading level one with my kindergartener and I would like to begin level two with my first grader as I am noticing some signs of reading difficulty or possibly dyslexia. I am excited about their potential with this program. I am praying it will help foster a love for reading. Loved your post.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this! Thanks for the great review! I love it when people post lots of pictures of using the curriculum.
ReplyDeleteI use AAS and AAR with my daughter, she was struggling with reading but AAR and AAS has really helped her. I have AAR 1 and 2 and I'd love to win AAR 3.
ReplyDeleteI am looking for a great reading program for my pre-K guy. He's my number 4 - everyone else went to pre-school 5 days a week and mostly learned to read in that environment. He's home with me and ready to start. I have heard great things about All About Reading and would love to win it!
ReplyDeleteWe are almost done with Level 1! It's time to purchase again - it would be awesome to win!!
ReplyDeleteI am currently finishing up Level 1 of aar and getting ready for Level 2 while adding in AAS. I
ReplyDeletetotally inspires by your binder system and I think I am going to have to incorporate that as we move on!
We just finished Level 1 today. Love love love AAR and AAS. This program clicks with my kids and me.
ReplyDeleteI have used levels 1 and 2 with my son who is not a natural reader and it is an excellent program that teaches phonics very logically thoroughly in an up painful way. Love it!
ReplyDeleteWe love AAR and would LOVE to get level 3 for next semester!
ReplyDeleteI used AAR and AAS1, and they were so effective! But for whatever reason (which I kind of regret) I thought is try another curriculum for my son. I with 2 terms to go, I'm going back to AAR2 and AAS2.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this for my five year old!!!
ReplyDeleteI am currently using AAR level 1 with my 2 youngest and level 2 with my autistic 10 year old boy. The break through with reading using this program have been amazing. I would love to win level 3 so I don't have to purchase it.
ReplyDeleteI have used levels 1&2 with my 1st grade daughter and we just started level 3 this week. I love this program and wish it were around when my I,dest daughter was learning to read. I would choose the pre-level 1 for my 4.5 year old son if I won.
ReplyDeleteI have used levels 1&2 with my 1sr grade daughter and we just stared level 3 this week. I love this program and wished it were around when my oldest was learning to read. If I won, I would choose the pre-reading level for my preschool son!
ReplyDeleteI love All About Reading. My son has finished level 2 and I have been wanting to get level 3. I just haven't had the money for it. I love how the book is open and go. My son's reading really took off using this curriculum.
ReplyDeleteI use All About Spelling level 3 with my 6.5-yr.-old. She was an early reader (4) and it was pretty painless teaching her to read. it is our third year with AAS, and I love it, because it really gives kids powerful tools for spelling, and improves their reading as well. I am just dabbling with the AAR pre-level with my 4-yr.-old son. He loves Ziggy, so we do a lesson when he asks to, but it is really too easy for him, I think. I am not convinced he is quite ready for blending yet, so we aren't doing anything formal. I would love to get AAR Level 1 for him!
ReplyDeleteI just got AAR1 in the mail this week and can't wait to start!!! I'd get level 2 if I won! :) Thanks and God bless
ReplyDeleteI tried the yellow level when it first came out as a review item but the child I had in the right age range was already reading. He taught himself at age 3. So it didn't fit us at the time. We do own all the blue and green readers and while I have 4 reading children I also have 4 little boys who still need to learn to read. I think AAR would be a great fit for my current 4 turning 5 year old. He's got the letter sounds down but isn't blending yet. I would also love to add the level 3 readers to my collection!
ReplyDeleteWas just looking at this for my children today!! Then a link to your blog popped up on my newsfeed! Crossing my fingers to win a great product!
ReplyDeleteThis review is wonderful, Michelle! You answered several questions that have been on my mind about AAR and solidified my decision to continue using it with Jack. We just finished Pre-1 and I'm working through the code primers before beginning AAR 1. I'm super anxious to move on and tempted to skip ETC primers, but thought a little letter review and more solid foundation might be helpful before starting AAR 1? I hope I'm making the right decision. Thank you for this review and giveaway too!!
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to try AAR with my youngest...my older two use AAS with much success.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity!
We haven't found a reading program we love yet - but I have to admit that your review makes it look perfect for us :)
ReplyDeleteHi Susana! In my experience, AAR 1 moves quickly and can be a challenging level. I think it is great that you are doing the ETC primers with Jack! In fact, my advice would be to finish them before starting Level 1. I jumped right into Level 1 with Eliana and about half way through I had to shelve it for a time. At first, I used All About Spelling Level 1 as a review, and we worked up to where we left off with AAR. But she still wasn't ready to move on, so I had her do ETC 1, and then when ETC 1 got to words with ck ending, (where we left off with AAR1), we jumped back into AAR and she is doing fabulous! She just needed a year to mature! (Malachi started Level one in the first grade and it was challenging for him, too, but he really took off in Level 2 and soared through it!)
ReplyDeleteI would love this!! We have used all about spelling before, and would love level 3 of all about reading!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter is on level 1 and we love it! We will be finished soon and will be moving up! Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteWe're just finishing the pre-reading level. It has been such a joy to use--a delightful way to prepare for reading! Would love to win this, but will be buying Level 1 anyway if I don't.
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful review! We are halfway through Level 2 and this has helped me decide to go ahead with level 3 when we are done.
ReplyDeleteThis is my 1st year homeschooling and I am using All About Spelling with my 2nd grader. I did not need to do any reading instruction really with her though because she started the year already reading at a 5th grade level. BUT next year I will be homeschooling my son as well for Kindergarten so I am contemplating using All About Reading since we really like AAS. He is actually most of the way through Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons now as a preschooler, so I wasn't sure where to go next with him. Thinking that AAR level 2 might work?
ReplyDeleteThis is our first year to homeschool and the curriculum we are using is just not working for my son (Horizon). He is very hands on. I have been researching other curriculum and this one is on the top of my list! I have heard amazing things about this curriculum and plan to order it (unless I win!) as soon as he is done with what we are using! I am so glad I found this giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWe haven't tried it, but it looks like a fun program.
ReplyDeleteWe are just finishing AAS level 1 and I have decided to start the AAR program as well. AAS has been wonderful for my family. Especially got my daughter who really struggles with reading and spelling. The AAS program has already helped her in spelling and reading. I can't wait to get started on AAR and see her continue to improve!
ReplyDeleteWe are in the early part of AAR 2. Hopeful that it will progress my 9 yr old further in his reading and decoding. Level 3 looks fun. Something to look forward too.
ReplyDeleteAlmost finish AAR 1 and would love to win level 2
ReplyDeleteYes, we use AAR Level 1. I love it too! We've tried so many various reading programs, and we will stick with AAR, and then start AAS. Thank you for the review. I got some good ideas from you, such as building a binder to store review items. :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to use this program as soon as my daughter is ready for it!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be buying the pre reading level this year so I have no idea what it'll be like, but this program looks like it's the most fun, which is crucial to getting a small one to actually participate lol
ReplyDeleteWe adore AAR and AAS! My first grader is working his way through Level 3 in AAR right now (Level 2 in AAS). His reading has improved dramatically and his confidence in reading. We have a blast with the program as well! I started him on Level 1 at the end of Kindergarten. I'd love to win the Pre-Reading set for my younger son.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your ENCOURAGEMENT!!! We just started level 1 after the Christmas holidays and I am already seeing my daughter read! So excited to hear that the other levels seem just as wonderful. I really like how you are using the pocket chart. May have to invest in one of those myself. But then I also like how you are keeping the cards together in a page protector. Come on luck!!! Win my level 2!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing our set up! That is so helpful!
ReplyDeleteWe are on AAR 2 and halfway done so this giveaway is perfect timing. You wrote a wonderful, thorough view. J-Jo absolutely loves it and while his reading has taken off and I think I could continue with just the AAS, I love how Marie's program progresses and now don't want to miss any of the books!
ReplyDeleteWe've been using AAS and I'd love to try AAR! I'd probably start with level 1 with my kindergartener (he's doing AAS 1 right now). My 2nd grader would also love to review with any level!
ReplyDeleteI have not used AAR mostly because of the cost, and my oldest daughter became a fluent reader by age 4 without it. However, I would love to use it with my son, starting with Level 1 or 2. I do use AAS and really enjoy it. Thanks for the Give Away! Malachi is looking so grow up now. So much bigger than the FIAR days. I love your blog. Thanks for all your hard work. It is always so encouraging.
ReplyDeleteWe are in AAR 3 right now and thank you for the great organizing tips! The transparent stickers and binder for each level is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteWe are using AAR level 1 right now and we love it!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this. We are using All About Reading with two children. I feel it is the best reading program available.
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of the notebook, what a great idea to leave the word cards in tact and put them in a page protector! I also love the red and green dot stickers, such a simple idea. We have level 1, it looks like they have made a few improvements to the program as the new levels have come out. With level 1 I didn't feel like there was quite enough hand holding, but the samples you showed seem more scripted, something I need! Thanks for the inspirations!
ReplyDeleteWe love AAS/AAR! We just started AAS 2 today and completed AAR 2 last year. I would love to add AAR 3 to our lineup this year. The confidence that this program has given my daughter is amazing! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would love to win Level 3. My girls are 1st & 3rd. My 3rd grader needs the most help in reading. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteRight now my daughters are working on Pre-Level 1 and Level 1 and I'm hoping to get Level 2 with tax returns. Winning Level 3 would be a great $$ saver!
ReplyDeleteI have a 4 & 6 year-old and I KNOW this program would do wonders for them!!
ReplyDeleteTwo of our children are currently using AAR. One in Pre-Reading and one in Level 1. This program works very well for our family. Thanks very much for the opportunity to win another level.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! We are finishing up level one and are so very happy with the results so far!!
ReplyDeleteI have heard a lot of good things about this program and would love to see it in person. I like that it engages so many sense in the learning. That truly makes a difference.
ReplyDeleteExcellent to read that it is helping your son with confidence and that he is making great strides. Such a joy!
I'm not sure if I would choose Level 2 or 3. My daughter is doing well as a 1st grader.
ReplyDeleteWe love All aBout Reading....we are on level 2 and look forward to level 3.
ReplyDeleteMichelle, you did a great job identifying why our son is going such a great job at reading. I agree that he is no longer stuttering, is enjoying writing, and "mow"s through books.
ReplyDeleteI use AAS Level 1 with my boys. However, AAR is definitely on my wish list.
ReplyDeleteLove All About Spelling and would love to try All About Reading. Level 3 would be the level we would need to. So its great timing.
ReplyDeleteI'd absolutely *love* to win this giveaway. I found out about the All About Reading program by finding their website through Facebook, after searching for homeschooling/teaching pages, which brought me to your site. I'm a passionate reader and am trying everything I can think of to motivate my 7 and 9 year olds to be, too, but so far nothing has really clicked for us. The problem might be that I've been trying to piece together my own curriculum from things and ideas that I find interesting, to save money and because I'm hesitant to invest what amounts to a huge chunk of our budget on something that may or may not work. Winning this set would be ideal, and I think I'd go for level 2, since they do have a good basis of skill but lack the essential confidence of which you speak. Your review sounds like precisely what we need, and I adore the how you've set it up. I'm definitely going to be creating a pocket idea for flashcards! :D Anyhow, thank you very much for your review. Even if I don't win, my interest has been piqued, and you have some ideas and tips that I'll be utilizing for sure. Again, thanks so much! :)
ReplyDeleteI think this would be a good program for my grandchildren
ReplyDeleteThey look great but it is so beyond our finances, Hope I win,,
ReplyDeleteI think I'd like level 3!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at this program. I would love to win level 1!
ReplyDeleteWe have never tried the All About Reading program, but my oldest is using the All About Spelling and loves it. Would love to try the Reading program for my youngest, probably Level 1.
ReplyDeleteLoved your idea of putting phonogram cards up on the wall for later review! Brilliant...
ReplyDeleteI am currently using AAR Pre-Reading with my four year old, and I've begun using AAR Level 1 with my six year old. We love All about Reading; the lessons are very user friendly and systematically develop the skills needed to learn how to read. I would love to win AAR Level 2.
ReplyDeleteWe love this program! I've home schooled for thirteen years and this is the best that I have ever seen! We have tried so many different things and when we switched to AAS and AAR the results were tremendous. Thank you, Michelle, for all your hard work. You are an inspiration to us all! God Bless! Wendy
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking yesterday that I should try AAR for my five year old. We would love to have the first level!
ReplyDeleteI would love to try this program for my dysgraphia/dyslexic child. The cost has been what is holding me back. Id like to try it first before spending $. If I noticed it works then I wouldnt hesitate.
ReplyDeleteWe love this program so much!!! We are about half way through level 2 with my first grader! I would love to win level 3 so we can start on that when level 2 is finished :-)
ReplyDeleteMy 8 yr old is dyslexic and we started level 2 about 5 months ago....wish i had sooner. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI am currently using the Pre-Reading program with my 4 year old and she LOVES it! I love how easy the teacher manual is to follow. Ziggy is amazing......I wasn't sure the puppet was necessary, but it certainly is!!! She gets so excited to do her reading lessons and has made SO much progress since starting the program!
ReplyDeleteI have been watching AAR for a long time, as I would love to use it with my son! I think he is about ready to start, so I would either get Pre-R or level 1, depending on if I thought he needed the review in Pre-R. Thank you so much for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI have considered using AAS with my son but have never tried it. He is in 4th grade so I'm not sure where to begin with him. This would be a great win, I'm sure we would love it if we started.
ReplyDeleteWe are almost done with Level 2 right now, and my daughter loves it. We are using AAS as well (also level 2 right now). She's not a fan of spelling and it doesn't come easily for her, but this program has enough going on that she's not completely miserable. The letter tiles really help! I'm going to have to order AAR level 3 soon!
ReplyDeleteWe use AAS, level two and love it! I have heard good things about the reading program as well and would love to try it!
ReplyDeleteI didn't start using All about Reading 'til my 3rd child was learning to read. She was struggling with the method I was using to teach that had worked with my older 2 children. We're already in AAR Level 2, and she has grown leaps and bounds with her reading and her confidence levels! Your reviews have always been quite thorough. Thank you for the tips you give on how to store/present the phonogram cards. I too have been frustrated by the huge pile of Word Cards and left them in full sheets.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with the ease of use with these products and the success we are heaving with them. I am currently teaching AAR 1 and AAR 2 and my kids look forward to their lesson. Can't wait to get started on level 3 soon!
ReplyDeleteI have had my eye on AAR for awhile, although I haven't made the final plunge. My child would be ready for level 1. Thank you for sharing your setup. It's nice to see a program in action!
ReplyDeleteWe would love to do the program , is been on my "want it list "for so long.
ReplyDeleteMy boys went to public school this winter but my 2nd grader is still needing help with reading and I think AAR is the way to do it! We're working on finishing level 1 after school.
ReplyDeleteWe have used AAR level 1 and part of level 2, but my son's reading soared and took off faster than it made sense to use these. However, we still use/love AAS. I would love to get AAR for when his siblings get older.
ReplyDeleteI'd live to win this! We are using pre-1 for my second child right now so I'd probably get 1.
ReplyDeleteI have been eyeing this program and heard many good reviews. I'd love the chance to have it!
ReplyDeleteI so wsh I lived in a country where they could deliver this stuff! I LOVE everything I have heard about AAR, someday we will get ours too. Love your detailed review.
ReplyDeleteLove this review!!! We just recently started homeschooling, and have had to chip away little by little at our curriculum. We started our youngest with Explode the Code and it was a burden everyday. So we went for All About Reading, and it has been a complete 180!!! He LOVES when I tell him it's time for reading! We JUST started (TODAY!) with Level 2 for my oldest. He was very hesitant, but flew through the lesson and wanted to do more! We've been using All About Spelling for our oldest for about a month, and have loved everything about it! We're definitely hooked on All About Learning products!
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for showing your layout! I was going to get a big plastic box to hold all the activity sheets, but *mind blown* ;-) Page protectors in a binder. Brilliant! :-D
I would love to try this program. I have read nothing but great reviews but it is a bit pricy for our family. We would start out with level 1.
ReplyDeleteI have always been so interested in this program. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteWe have used the spelling program and I would love to try the reading one! It's been great for multiple kids at once too!
ReplyDeleteI have AAR 1 and really like it. Would love more levels!
ReplyDeleteWe are currently using All About Spelling and I LOVE it. This has made me very interested in getting All About Reading. My daughter would be ready for the 3rd level
ReplyDeleteWe have used AAR 1 and are currently using AAR 2. We love this program and HIGHLY recommend it!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to win Level 3. ;)
My dd used AAR Level 1 with MUCH success. I had planned on moving her into Level 2 but we had so many setbacks I could not afford it :( I would love to win so I could keep going forward with the learning to read process!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting the giveaway :)
This looks like a wonderful program. I really appreciate the detailed review. Would love to win Level 2 for my son.
ReplyDeleteI'm not using All About Reading yet because we have not started homeschooling but I am considering using it when we do start very soon! I would love to get the curriculum for free! =)
ReplyDeleteThis program looks great! I really think it would be a great curriculum to use with my son who is a struggling reader.
ReplyDeleteI would be so thrilled to win this program. We've been working through a Mennonite program, Beginning Steps to reading, for K and 1st, but have NO idea about what to do next after we finish this spring. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI've been looking at this for my younger kids. We've started their spelling series and are pleased.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the review very helpful breakdown. Would love to win.
ReplyDeleteWe LOVE All About Learning. We use the spelling program and the reading program. It has made reading a spelling go from tear inducing to fun.
ReplyDeleteWe are currently using level 1 and will definitely continue on with this program! The lessons are short and fun and really stick! You are actually one of the blogs I checked out when I was looking for reviews for the program, I'm so glad we decided to go with it.
ReplyDeleteI have four year old twins and we are slowly moving through AAR1. They love the program. I love that I can break it down into small pieces to fit their attention spans and interest. We loved AAR pre level 1 and can't wait to get level 2 of AAR! Ziggy is a celebrity in this house.
ReplyDeleteWE've been thinking of switching to this but haven't decided yet. We'd start with level 1.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this, Michelle - I actually am waiting right now for the delivery of level 3 for my youngest son and I can't wait to get started!
ReplyDeleteIt is your posts that encouraged and got us started in the AAS and AAR programs. Since them we have fell in love with them just as much as you. :-) Would love to be able to get level three. Thank you for taking precious time to be so thorough in your description, it has been helpful for me, as I am sure many others also. Always a delight to come visit.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing, Carissa! {and for entering} but I really wanted to say that I MISS YOUR BLOG!!
ReplyDeleteThank you Michelle :-)
ReplyDeleteI sent an email to you through the email address I had for you in my address book, I hope it is the same one still.
Have a lovely day.
My youngest is a struggling reader, as well as a hands-on/kinesthetic learner. This looks like it might be beneficial for him. Not even sure what level he'd need...Maybe level 2.
ReplyDeleteI am always interested in the AAR or AAS. I am going to be looking for a new English program for next year. I have no idea what level I would use. So I like seeing what Malachi is working on.
ReplyDeleteWe have loved AAS level 1 and are half way through level 2 with my dd. Plan to start AAR level 1 with twin boys soon.
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win this! I've been eyeing it for a while now (first seen here!), but when I looked into it, it looks so intense. However, I'm thankful for how you've broken it down and shared how you do things. My son lacks confidence and so it sounds like this would be great! I'd have to look harder at the levels...we'd either be a 1 or 2. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI was already looking at AAR {and AAS} and had asked my co-op friends if I could look through their materials. Your review has really helped solidify that this is a viable option for us, and also that it is "doable."
ReplyDeleteI have really wanted to try All about Reading! I do love how your post laid everything out so nicely! I definitely want to try it even more now! I think we would need to start with Level 1.
ReplyDeleteI've used AAS and would love to try the first level
ReplyDeleteI've been debating about trying AAR 1 with my son. I think he'd love it, but I'm not sure if it's worth the money. It looks like a lot of fun, and that it'd be easy for me to use.
ReplyDeleteI currently use AAS and have had my eye on AAR for awhile. I would start off with level 1.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't planning on using AAR, but your review along with someone else mentioning it, intrigues me!
ReplyDeleteWe have used Pre Reading and now are onto Level 1.
ReplyDeleteWe do not currently use a packaged curriculum - I create my own! My 6-year-old does a combination of K and 1st grade work but she can't read yet (and my 4-year-old does things alongside us). I've heard a lot of good stuff about this program - guessing level 1 would be good for her? I was just telling my husband that I would hate to spend the money and not really like it, so I love the guarantee on the program.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for a level 1 reading curriculum for my daughter. We are new to homeschooling, and I am overwhelmed at all the options. Your post really has me intrigued!
ReplyDeleteI recently bought AAS and love it so much I am hoping to buy the AAR pre reading for my preschooler and AAR 1 for my kindergartner very soon! I love all the positive things I've read with these programs!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a great program. I'm not sure if I would start with a level geared more toward 1st or 2nd grade levels. . . or if I'd try to incorporate it into this year or save it for a fun program next year. But I would love to try it out and see if my boys enjoy it. It's something I'll look into purchasing even if we don't win the raffle thanks to your review :)
ReplyDeleteI have used Pre-1, 1, and 2, but have not yet had an opportunity to use 3. I would love to win 3!
ReplyDeleteWe love All about Reading at our house! We are currently using Level 1 and Level 2. It's almost time buy Level 3 as we are nearing the end of Level 3. I'd love it if I were blessed to win this giveaway. Thanks for your great review!
ReplyDeleteI am really intrigued by this as someone who has taught my oldest child with "100 Easy Lessons" (and it just flew by) and we have dabbled in the Spalding method with my second child. At this point, I am having a really hard time swallowing the cost! Oof! Any others want to speak to this??
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy! Considering the guarantee, and the resale value when you are done if you don't have another child to teach using the program, I feel it is worth it. But, the fact that it has made teaching reading a joy and taken all of the struggle out of not only teaching but learning as well, makes it all the more worth while. Plus I will teach 3 with AAR and 6 children with AAS! That takes the cost down considerably! Do you have a spelling program you LOVE? Maybe you could start with All About Spelling first? We did! And fell in love with the program so when AAR came out, I was over the moon! Another idea is to look for a used copy.:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your thoughts!
ReplyDeleteWe are Currently using All About Reading Level 1 and 2! Both of my children are doing really well and I'm enjoying teaching it to them! I would love to get Level 3 move my 2nd grader into once we finish up level 2.
ReplyDeleteI've been eyeballing the All About products for a while. I need to stop eyeballing and start ordering. :)
ReplyDeleteWe love All About Reading! It has worked so well for us.
ReplyDeleteI have never used this program but I would love to try it. I would pick level 3 if I won.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win level 3. We have used AAS one and two with other reading programs; I would like to coordinate more.
ReplyDeleteI would love to try AAS and AAR. What we are using now isn't making the cut.
ReplyDeleteI would love to win this giveaway! We currently use AAS and all of my children love it. I have to admit, I love it, too, because it's planned out for me, thorough, and is hands-on for the kiddos - even my husband has learned a few spelling rules from this program. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting information about curriculum. We are first year homeschoolers and enjoy the information you share.
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to try this program for awhile now but haven't been able to financially invest into the program. I would start my struggling reader with Level 1. I'm also considering AAS for my autistic/dyslexic teen. Our current program just isn't working out well for him. Thank you for the opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI just discovered AAR and have placed an order for level two through our charter. It looks like an amazing program and I am so excited and happy to start my first grader on this program. If I were so blessed as to win this giveaway, I would choose the Pre Reader program for my son who is begging me to teach him his letters so that he can be like his big sister and "do school!" Thank you for your thoughtful reviews.
ReplyDeleteI first started frequenting your blog when working through BFIAR with my son. I'm hoping to start him in AAR level 1 this fall, and I returned to your blog looking for reviews on the AAR program. I was pleasantly surprised to see that you just posted a review AND a giveaway! It would be such a blessing for anyone to win...I hope it's me!! :)
ReplyDeleteI would LOVE to win this!! I have never used it, but would love to get started as I have heard wonderful things about AAR. I would start level 1 with my daughter.
ReplyDeleteI have used some of Pre-Reading (was too easy for my son) and we are now using Level 1. I love it, my son really likes it some days, others not so much. We will certainly be going on to the next level when we are done with this one.
ReplyDeleteAAR interests me but the cost has kept me from purchasing thus far. I am still thinking about it though.
ReplyDeleteI love your reviews about this program...so positive and fun! We would love to try it because what we have is confusing and frustrating to me and my son :( The drawing can't come soon enough!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your review. We are hoping to start level 1 with my daughter in the fall.
ReplyDeleteI have seen AAR and AAS on a lot of homeschooling blogs and I am so intrigued. I would love the opportunity to try it with my 4 kids!
ReplyDeleteI have used the All About Spelling program with my older kids. My youngest is not catching on to reading very well and I am looking at moving her to AAR. Thanks for the contest!
ReplyDeleteMy 6 year old is about half way through AAR2. We love it!
ReplyDeleteWe love the set up of this program but haven't tried it because of the cost. We would love to win Level 2! I really appreciate how specific your review is, especially all the tips on how you organize your materials and how the spelling program works for you. As a new homeschooling family, the details and photos of your space are very inspiring! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'd love a chance at this! We have level one and two and it has been so helpful! We were having such a hard time with reading with my son until I got this program.
ReplyDeleteWe finished level 1 in a flash and are ready for level 2 or 3. He really should have been on 2 instead of 1 so we went through it fast. In 15 years of homeschooling it's the first reading program I like!!
