Homeschool Mothers Journal I never finished: January 4th, 2014

In my life this week…

We've had some full days since I posted my last journal entry.  We wrapped up Tot School, Bo turned 3, we "rowed" a Little Golden book, and we had a fun day to celebrate his three-year oldness.

In our homeschool this week…

Read-aloud: Red Sails to Capri. One is searching for adventure. One is searching for beauty. One is searching for truth. "Can all three find what they are looking for in the mystery of the island of Capri?" A wonderful read aloud with interesting characters, funny twists, and an awe inspiring ending that really exists and has historical significance dating back to Emperor Tiberius. The reviews are a spoiler, so don't read them until you read the book!

Started: The Great and Terrible Quest

History: we are at the time of Christ to the fall of Rome, and finished up MOH Volume 1. But we have done very little school these past two weeks. I had not planned to take time off over the holidays, but the boys' friends were out of school and they had plans almost daily. And Nathan was scheduled to work during our normal school hours.

I really just enjoyed the time focusing on Bo's birthday week one week, and planning and blogging the next. And then easing back into school the next!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

This week, we made a quick trip to Montana to get groceries at Costco and restocked our fridge. While there, I found a few things for Elli for her birthday coming up this month.  She wants a "Squinkie" birthday and I found some on clearance at Target.  And I got a Zinkie Flower Pot on clearance at ToysRUs. She will be so excited! I also made stops at Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

Other than that, I have been "hibernating" as I usually do in the winter.  :)

My favorite thing this week was…

Picking up my photo order at Costco and starting my Project Life album for 2013. I am a year behind, but after working current on 2012, I decided I like a little time to go by before I work on an album. And I think it is a very good thing for me right now. 2013 was a very hard year.  I think I will have more fun looking back and reflecting on the year now, than if I had worked current on it all year. I will appreciate it more this way.

A thought to share...

Do you ever miss the feeling of picking up a roll of film newly developed and seeing the photos for the very first time?!

I love digital and wouldn't go back, but that feeling of seeing a new photo for the very first time... is special.

My kiddos favorite thing this week was…

Playing in the snow because it warmed up enough to enjoy it!

Things I’m working on…

  • Project Life

  • Bo's preschool

  • Moving my blog to WP

I’m cooking…

  • spaghetti

  • lasagna with garlic bread

  • French Onion soup

  • French Dips

  • and I have got to stop cooking myself potato hash browns for breakfast - I lost 10 pounds and have now gained a few back.

I’m grateful for…

my husband, who

I’m praying for…

my Word of the year.

I rewarded myself this week...

By taking a respite and going to bed early most nights.

Something I am ogling or have my eye on…

Elli is always wearing her big brother's roller blades around the house (they are twice the length of her little feet), so I'd really like to get her a pair that fit her for her birthday. (Ugh! She just walked in my room where I am working, and saw the skates pulled up. Her eyes got really big! I really wanted this to be a surprise. Should I still get them?) (I did.)

I also have my eye on several Hape Playfully Delicious toys to go with the kitchen I got Bo for his birthday. I can't decide.
