Homeschool Library Builder

Homeschool Library Builder (HSLB) is an online resource for new and gently used books at an affordable price ~ with the goal of helping you build your homeschool library, including many titles used in literature-based curricula, such as Sonlight, Tapestry of Grace, Ambleside, Five in a Row, etc. (You can even search by curricula). There is something for all ages and interests in HSLB's online library.

I remember my Sonlight days ~ our first year we bought a complete core, books and all, and I LOVED having all the books. I remember how proud Jordan (my oldest) was when he saw all the books that he had read lined up on the shelf (he did not like to read before we home schooled). Our second year, I bought a used Instructor Guide and had to find all my own books. Many of them I borrowed from other Sonlighters or the library and he really missed being able to see all that he accomplished that year. Plus, it was hard to find some of the titles. So, when I saw HSLB, I thought that this would have been perfect for that!

Plus as a member, you can earn points when you buy books from their site. For each dollar you spend, you get one Book Point. Once you earn 15 points, you earn $1 towards future purchases.

I have not even begun to plan for our studies beyond ancient history ~ I have already purchased the books that we need for this year, but I will consider HSLB when I am ready to plan and purchase books for next year.

To review the services offered at HSLB, I searched for books that we are reading now. My first search for The Cat of Bubastees (a Henty novel about ancient Egypt) came up with 0 results. My second search, for Mara, Daughter of the Nile (a book about ancient Egypt that we recently finished) is offered at $4.99 and retails for $6.99. I paid $5.00 for this book, plus free shipping (with a minimum order total). However, when I add it to my shopping cart, it gave me a $1.00 discount for a total of $3.99. However, media mail shipping for books up to $25 is $4.50, so ordering just one book would not be a good deal for me.

I enjoyed browsing through the categories and found several other books that I am interested in. I can see how this would be a beneficial service to the home schooling community, especially if you ordered several books at a time to reduce the shipping.

Oh, and did I mention that membership is free?

HSLB also gives you an incentive to join and invite others to join. If someone registers, and gives your name, you can earn 15 points if they make a purchase.

I think this is a neat service and I am looking forward to using it when I get ready to buy our books for the coming year.
