My ingredients: baking soda, salt, glycerin, xylitol and stevia to sweeten and Thieves, my favorite essential oil.
I read online to use 3 parts baking soda to one part salt. So, I made two different batches, one with the Xylitol and one with the Stevia. One with salt, and one without. Next time, I will omit the salt altogether. The Xylitol was a little too grainy so I melted the mixture on the stove. When both batches were done, I really couldn't tell the difference, so I just combined them.
Basically, my paste tasted, well . . .salty- like baking soda. The redeeming quality was the Thieves oil, as it felt good and left a pleasant feeling and taste in my mouth afterwards.
Well, we have a lot of toothpaste now and I am not sure how much this will save me in the long run. The initial purchase of ingredients was more than I expected to spend to make a "paste." We will have to see how long they last and then decide. When we run out of this batch, I am sure I will be experimenting with another recipe!
I am looking forward to trying the Toothpaste...Thank you Chel - With love Andi
