It was Nathan's turn to cook dinner tonight and since it was a special night, he also made a yummy apple treat for dessert.
First he started with Canadian Maple Syrup topping: 1/2 stick butter + 1/2 cup pure maple syrup = a good for you caramel topping.
Let the butter melt while you peel, core and slice about 4 apples.
Then sprinkle them with sugar. . .
and a little cinnamon.
Toss to coat evenly and simmer until fork tender. While you are waiting for the apples to cook, bring the syrup to a boil and cook for 1 minute. Then let it cool so it will thicken a little and not run all over the cone like ours did.
Layer in a waffle cone with vanilla ice cream (the a' la mode part). Begin with apples, drizzle the maple syrup topping over, add a scoop of ice cream and repeat. End with the maple syrup topping.
We got this idea from the waffle cone box. Very simple. Simply good.
I had to work late and this stuff looks awesome! When I arrived home the kids had already ravenously inhaled it. If I had printed out the great pictures 'Chel had done then I am sure they would have some flavor to them as well since they are such great pictures! Great job yet again, my dear wife!
