Tot School ~ Picture Studies

~Eliana is 2 years, 3 months~
Over the last couple weeks, I have enjoyed doing picture studies with Eliana. We looked through 3-Minute Animal Tales and talked about the pictures. I am amazed at her vocabulary and at how well she describes the pictures and tells "her story."
Some of the questions I ask, include:
  • What do you see?
  • What animal is that?
  • What are they doing?
  • What will happen next?
  • What do you think of that?
  • How does that make you feel?
  • What color is that?
  • How many are there?
This has really been enjoyable, for both of us!
Elli loves to see herself in pictures and on our family DVD. When she wants to watch the movie, she asks to watch "baby" because both movies on the DVD begin when she and her brother, Malachi, were born. She will watch it over and over!
One day, we played with the Photo Booth application on my Macbook.
Of course, when her brothers joined in, pictures got a little silly. We also used the special effects to make some pictures that resembled fun house mirrors.
We also have been watching a 5 month old baby once a week, and Eliana loves her! We sit and play almost the whole time she is here. Eliana thinks she is hers. *Ü*
I was saving this for when we study butterflies, but she found the butterfly chalkboard stickers and wanted to play.
We put two butterflies on a piece of card stock to color on with chalk, and with the other two, I made her a butterfly garden with flower wall stickers (both from the Dollar Tree). My intentions were to give her a space where she could purposely color on the wall and she loves it!
Color matching cards had her attention for a short time one day. She likes to look at the pictures and we talk about the colors as we put them away.
She loves playdough and I made a special drawer for all the playdough supplies. She can reach this and get it out whenever she wants, as long as she puts it away nicely (we are still working on that, but she is becoming more responsible in this area).
I love how she gets excited over her little creations!
We also took a field trip with the boys for a science (you can read more about that here), and Eliana enjoyed seeing all the creatures.
We walked to the soccer field to watch her brothers play their game. It was cold and windy so we only stayed for half the game. We stopped by the library on our way home and Eliana played with the farm animals and doll house.
We have also been reading books and doing "N" activities with Malachi for preschool and I will share that soon.

  2. It's been SO long since I've read blogs. I have 50-something entries to skim through. And I need to get back to mine. Anyway, I LOVE these pictures, especially the ones of you and the children. You're beautiful and look so happy. And of course, that Eliana is such a cutie. I didn't realize she looks so much like you, though. I've always seen Luke in her, but with your faces together, you two look alike, too. I had to delete, b/c there's no edit. I wanted to add that William loves Photo Booth.
